I am not necessarily a believer in astrology, but sometimes it is hard to ignore the "coincidences." This time around has been impossible to explain how
every single plan I made fell apart, other than blaming it on
Mercury being Retrograde. Absolutely everything went sideways on me. Work. Weather. Sales. Travel. You name it.

I got waysided longer than planned on the first leg of my trip, which was a stay at my fathers house, working on tying up some lingering projects. I was supposed to head towards the Bay area for a job, with a couple days planned camping on the way up. That didn't happen, and ultimately made the trip in one afternoon. A three day job got cut short due to construction delays, and lots of rain didn't help.
At this point, finding myself "ahead of schedule" was not remotely a surprise, but I did have to figure out exactly what I was doing more quickly - something I struggle with if life. Traffic, construction, road closures and weather sort of pushed me along, guiding my choices.
But, as Mercury would have it, my options were limited. As I sat in my van eating pad thai for dinner after a wet afternoon, I realized I didn't have much choice at all. Too many circumstances were pushing me retreat. So that is exactly what I did.

A two week trip along the northern California coast during December is dicey to begin with. I knew that and kept things loose. But with a string of storms ahead, narrowly dodging a rare tornado and a sense that it was futile all along, I know I made the right "choice."
With about 500 miles added on my van, I only ended up one afternoon of shooting. On a bit of a whim, I chose to hike up a little stream north of the Bay, called Cascade Falls, taking my time along the way.
